So ive been a climber now in the Northeast for whats been going on 5 years now i started as a boulderer and i still feel like i have missed a big portion of the bouldering to be had in the northeast. there are many bouldering areas in the northeast i still havent been to yet, and vast quantitys of stone i havent even touched yet. so here it is, this is a list i am creating for myself of all the areas and problems i want to go to and check out in this next year or the next several...

Harriman

I was bouldering in Harriman on Monday. Got on Mr. Ed and came closer than ever before. last time i was there i couldnt get through the first crux. on monday i got through the first crux quite easily and then climbed all the way to the lip. Im going back tomorrow. hopefully i have it in me

The east face of Rat Rock is back to its original glory. The parks department cleaned her up real good : )

Holds look fine.. i have no idea how they cleaned it but the rock is unaffected.

The Atrocity

The day before yesterday 03/9/10 I was at Rat rock for one of the first nice days this season. The conditions were pretty good, rock looked normal, no holds broke during the winter, the rock hadnt changed.

I go to Cat rock for like 20 minutes and come back to Rat and some fuckin punk kid tagged it. Out of 30+ years that grafitti has been a phenomenon, no one tagged that fuckin rock! Now I bet all the rest of the kids walking around with cans are gonna bomb it too.

What a shame! Rat may not be much, but its a good gateway for new climbers coming out of the city. (i know i started bouldering there before spreading my wings) . Its totally climbable still however, its an eyesore. People who wanna climb bad enough will still go there to get their crush on fo sho...
